Have you juststopped taking the pill or have you been off it for several weeks/months and want to take care of your skin during this transition? We've got 3 basic tips to get you on the right track to more beautiful skin after stopping the pill !

Tip 1: Take care of your intestines and digestion

An unbalanced intestinal flora will impact the quality of your skin. In fact, your intestinal microbiota, another name for your intestinal flora, is inhabited by bacteria, yeasts and viruses. This little world weighs between one and two kilos. Like everything else in the body, everyone has a role to play. A perfect balance is established.

This intestinal microbiota is essential to your digestive health:

  • It contributes to good digestion;
  • It takes care of all the non-digestible elements;
  • Helps assimilate nutrients;
  • It is involved in the synthesis of certain vitamins and three essential amino acids (valine, leucine and isoleucine);
  • Among other things, it regulates the absorption of fatty acids, calcium and magnesium.

In short, a healthy microbiota ensures good digestion.

A question of balance

So in the intestines, it's all a question of balance. Antibiotics and hormonal contraception can have an impact on this ecosystem. Indeed, some medications can reduce quality and quantity over several days/weeks.

Gut microbiota and skin microbiota may be linked. Intestinal imbalance increases the risk of skin inflammation, leading to pimples, rosacea, dehydrated skin, patches, etc. That's why it's so important to take care of your intestines!

Your intestinal ally: glutamine

Glutamine is an amino acid that could well become your best ally for digestion, in addition to a healthy diet. It acts on the proliferation of intestinal cells. Particularly for protein synthesis, glutamine is essential for the proper functioning of your body. If you're looking for a supplement for your intestines, glutamine is what you're looking for.

Tip 2: Drink enough fluids and get enough quality sleep!

Drink enough

One thing we've often heard is to drink enough to hydrate the body. It's not about drinking a minimum of 5L of water a day. Excessive drinking can have the opposite effect, causing minerals to leak out through the urine. Remember, we're looking for a body that's properly mineralized, especially after stopping hormonal contraception.

The minimum quantity of water you need varies according to your activities and your morphology (whether you do sport, are sedentary, if it's hot...). Official recommendations are around 1.5 to 2L of water a day, and to drink before you feel thirsty. Your diet also provides some hydration (fruits, vegetables and vegetable juices, as mentioned above).

Quality sleep

Sleep is essential for the body's equilibrium. During the night, the body enters a phase of regeneration (cellular regeneration) andwaste purification. These processes have a positive impact on your skin when you stop taking the pill, and contribute to your body's overall balance. In fact, as we've already mentioned, if the body is overloaded and unbalanced, the repercussions can be seen in the skin through waste diversion.

Tip 3: Protect your skin when you stop taking the pill!

Wear sunscreen... every day

The sun accounts for 75% of skin aging. With this information, you have a good reason to protect yourself. But the sun's UVA and UVB rays have other harmful effects on your skin, such as the premature appearance of wrinkles, burns, brown spots and skin cancer. In Asia, they've understood: sun cream is part of their skincare routine. And when you see their skin... Well, maybe that's good advice 😉

So, every day, summer and winter, wear an SPF 50+ sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays.

Create a skincare routine adapted to your skin

And this is not the easiest step. You'll need to find out about your pimple type and skin type. And then create a suitable routine. That's really what has helped us personally to find a routine that suits us and that can evolve according to our needs.

With all the information we've gathered, we've put together a comprehensive skincare e-book to help you build a suitable routine. Months of research are finally condensed into an e-book.

Here are 3 tips you can already incorporate into your lifestyle that will give you an in-depth approach and support for taking care of your post-pill skin. Remember, it's all the actions you take to improve your lifestyle that will have a positive impact on your skin when you stop taking the pill!
